As it's my blog, I think I'll make this all about me. Be warned though, he doesn't pull any punches. So, we're feeling particularly chuffed this morning, as our work for Hoxton Street Monster Supplies has been nominated for a D&AD award, in their Writing for Design section. A good place to sample David Abbott's work is The Copy Book, published by D&AD. But this post is to praise them heartily for something. In 1995, the D&AD published a book on the art of writing for advertising. Along the way, Steve takes in D&AD White Pencil awards, 60s ad maverick Howard Gossage, and even Bill Clinton. Here, 32 copywriters talk about their craft and they show examples of their best work. Though now outdated, the best-selling book remains an important reference work today—a bible for creative directors. D & AD Copy book is a nonprofit educational charity that was launched in 1962 by a group of London-based designers and art directors, with iconic and legendary professionals on both its judging panels and winners lists. You do know the D&AD annual isn't a comprehensive list of design agencies don't you? But if you buy a second, I'd highly recommend the exquisite new edition of D&AD's The Copy Book. I give the D&AD a fair amount of stick, for what I think are the right reasons (Branding 2.0? In 1994, Adrian served as President of D&AD, and was also on the board of British Television Advertising Awards from 1995 – 2006. As he wrote in D&AD's The Copy Book, Hunt's philosophy is: "Always work with a great art director. The British Library has a copy of every book published so perhaps try there.
